You miss the point entirely: Star Wars fans want the new movies to deviate from the formula – this film doesn’t do so, in fact it slavishly copies and presses a big fat reset button at the end.

I’d love someone to tell me one single aspect of this film that wasn’t already done in Empire or Jedi.

They even rename the ‘Resistance’ back to the god damn ‘Rebellion’!

And it would’ve been so easy to do so. One of the many interesting threads The Force Awakens gave us that Last Jedi squashes was the idea of a galactic civil war – we hadn’t seen that in a proper Star Wars film before. A divided galaxy.

What does The Last Jedi do to explore that idea? It nixes it. Back to Empire vs a small band of Rebels please, and keep those tills ringing with Disney dollars.
