Yet another commentator who seems to have forgotten how democracy actually works.

Voters are not there to “rubber-stamp” the agendas of ‘enlightened intellectuals’ in charge. Our elected officials are not there to ‘protect the public from itself’. If people say ‘No’ to something, it’s not a jumping off point to work out how to get them to say ‘Yes’. EU politicians and thinkers seem to take a Bill Cosby-esque approach to consent.

If a second referendum were to happen, and a majority were to vote for “No Deal”, then No Deal it is, regardless of what newspaper columnists, business leaders, the Prime Minister, the Queen or even Jean-Claude Juncker himself thinks about it.

That’s how a democracy works: our representatives enact the will of voters. At least, that’s how it’s supposed to work. It seems some things, such as EU membership, are too important to allow the people decide for themselves.
