What a mess. Batman ‘89 was a pop culture sensation. Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy was the same. This whole Batman film thing has been figured out – it’s a solved problem. Yet now they can’t make a profitable Batman film to save their universe, let alone Justice League.

I’ll tell you what I’d do if I was in charge of DC: out of a series of duds and misfires they have one, single, shining mega-hit: Wonder Woman.

One way the DCEU could distinguish itself from Marvel is to develop a series of standalone female superhero flicks that just possibly could cross-over at some point. So I’d give Batgirl to an exciting female director and let her have at it. Then do another, and another. Then in ten years have another fresh go at Superman and Batman, when there’s a swell of anticipation built up. But for now, ladies first.
