Nailed it. The original Star Wars trilogy had an incredibly strong female protagonist who was a fan favourite because she said things like “Aren’t you a little short for a Stormtrooper?” and “From now on, you do as I tell you” and “Get this walking carpet out of my way”.

Star Wars fans loved Leia because she was cool, not because she was female.

The trilogy also had a great black character (who now seems strangely forgotten) who I personally always counted as one of the gang – the central four, alongside Han, Luke & Leia. He was suave, a rogue, a double-crosser who could talk to Darth Vader almost as a peer, an ace pilot and ultimately a rebel hero.

Star Wars fans loved Lando because he was cool, not because he was black.

And now these same fans are collectively branded as insecure misogynists because some of them don’t find the new characters or films all that interesting? Huh?
