Imagine a real person reacting that way. Just try to really picture how that would go. Someone who’s been trying to find their parents all their life is finally told (by someone they mistrust – to boot) that their parents are worthless, and nobody important. Would that person then immediately lose all interest in their mother and father? It is utterly preposterous.

The whole point of the movie seems to be that you don’t have to come from some special bloodline to have value – anyone can be important. But as soon as Rey finds out her parents are nobody important she loses all interest in them. I’m tempted to say it’s just bad writing, but I think it goes deeper than that: I think something is warped in Rian Johnson’s mind. Maybe he had a difficult childhood?

A real human being would probably react by saying “I don’t care what you think – they’re my parents I still need to find them”.
