I always find it interesting how wealthy people disregard or discount ‘luck’ as the primary factor in their success.
Someone, somewhere, perhaps long ago said “Yes” to these people and “No” to others. That is if you are lucky enough to even be born into a country where opportunities to succeed exist beyond securing fresh drinking water for the new day.
All a person needs in life is to hear “No” a few too many times, or to not make that chance encounter, or miss their shot by a second, for failure to start to seep into their soul like bile.
This is why I cringe when millionaire types say they will cut their children off from any inheritance so they can “make their own way in the world”. The supreme arrogance of this statement is mind boggling. These people really think that they are uniquely gifted, or ingenious, or blessed to be so wealthy, when really it almost always boils down to chance.
There’s a reason why it’s called good ‘fortune’.
