Funny, this angle never once occurred to me any time I watched the film.

While I think it rightfully toppled Kane for the meaningless ‘best film of all time’ award, I always saw it as the portrait of a man undone by his own carefully concealed, but intensely obsessive nature. Stewart is so perfectly cast because it’s only half-way into the movie that you begin to suspect this guy’s not normal.

Interesting perspective though, nice excuse to go watch it again!
