Fascinating observation about the Hunger Games series, I never thought about it that way before but you’re right.

The real problem with saying ‘stop writing makeover stories’ is that – for whatever reason – people like them. If people didn’t enjoy these stories they wouldn’t make money and then we wouldn’t get more of them.

In a way, Rocky is a great makeover escapist fantasy, and I love it. At the beginning of the movie Rocky doesn’t love himself, and (even though he loses the big fight) it’s a transformation of self-confidence more than of appearance. Same goes for my favourite movie makeover – of Fran in Strictly Ballroom. In the film, Scott crucially becomes interested in Fran before her transformation begins, when she plucks up the courage to go toe-to-toe with him in a dance-off.

I guess I’m just a sucker for the genre!
