Exactly! I was crushingly disappointed by the film not having the courage of its convictions at any point. I too thought Rey was going to team up with Ben to find a new path forward – that was what the whole narrative was building toward. But the end is a giant reset button – the Resistance is back to being the Rebellion, and the Jedi books unburned themselves.

I think you nailed it, and I agree with everything you say here. Please do write more – at length!

I think the film was fatally flawed by Disney before Johnson ever put pen to paper, by Disney not deciding whether this is Episode 8 of 9, or Episode 8 of 900.

Let me as you a question also: if you could’ve given Snoke any backstory you liked, would you have? And what would it have been?
