Does it really though?

Imagine Rey wasn’t a character in Star Wars but a real person – do her actions make any sense?

She has spent her whole life waiting for her parents to return, then goes out into the galaxy still in search of them. Then someone she implicitly mistrusts tells her her parents are “nobodies” and her reaction is “okay, I don’t care about them anymore then”. Would a real person care what anyone else thinks of their parents? Would it make them want to find them any less?

The Last Jedi is a hypocrite: it goes around saying lineage isn’t important, and Rey is special because of who she is, not where she came from, but the minute Rey is told her parents are nobodies from nowhere, and not of any significance, she (and the film) loses all interest in them.
